Every price in Ultimate Team is set by other players. The transfer market is a giant auction house, so a card is worth exactly what someone will pay for it right now. Understanding what pushes that number up and down is the difference between buying well and buying at the top.
Supply and demand, minute by minute
Prices are driven by how many copies of a card are being listed (supply) versus how many people want one (demand). When a card is packable, supply rises and prices drift down; when a card can only be earned or is needed for something, supply dries up and prices climb. Because packs open around the clock, popular cards can move noticeably within a single day.
What moves the market
- Promos and new content — a fresh promo floods packs with new cards and can crash older ones as attention shifts.
- SBCs — a challenge that asks for a rating or a league sends the relevant fodder up as thousands buy at once.
- Team of the Week and objectives — cards leaving packs or being locked behind objectives tighten supply.
- Market-wide events — double XP, lightning rounds, and big pack promotions change how much fodder is floating around.
Price ranges and 'extinct' cards
Cards trade within a minimum and maximum price band. When demand is so high that every copy sells instantly at the maximum, a card is effectively extinct— you often cannot buy one at all until more are listed. Seeing a card pinned to its price ceiling is a strong signal that it is in heavy demand, usually because of an SBC or a fresh promo.
Read the price history
A single current price tells you little; the trend tells you a lot. Before buying, look at how a card has moved over the last day and week. Is it spiking because of a temporary SBC, or settling after a promo? Buying into a spike almost always means overpaying, while a card drifting down day after day may be worth waiting on.
